Mom, Stay True to Your Heart
The Bible does not tell us much about the father and grandfather of Timothy but it tells us a little bit about his mother and grandmother.
“I am reminded of your sincere faith,
which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and,
I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”
(2 Timothy 1:5, NIV)
Paul praised Eunice, Timothy’s mother, for her “genuine faith,” which she shared in common with Lois, her mother (2 Tim. 1:5). Eunice imparted that faith to her son, Timothy, and more than anyone else equipped him for a lifetime of usefulness for God.
Eunice is an encouragement for every woman faced with the daunting task of nurturing the spiritual life of her children. Eunice may have had no formal religious education and little encouragement from her family, except for Lois. But she had two crucial things going for her that offer hope for mothers today—the inherent power of being a mother and the dynamic power of a loving God.
If you are the mother of a child growing up in today’s world, you may sometimes wonder how much of an impact you are having on your child’s life. At times, the influences of teachers, peers, television, video games, and even the government may seem to outweigh your own.
Take heart! Don’t be discouraged! As a mother stay true to your heart and let your faith draw you closer to God. God has His own way and time of letting all your efforts and prayers come to fruition in the life of your family and children.
