Do You Need a New Perspective?

A perspective is a point of view, a way of seeing things. As finite human beings, our perspective is severely limited. Your child, for example, may think he knows everything – but you know better. His perspective is limited by his age and experience.

Try looking at a picture about an inch from your eyes. All you can see is a blur of colors or dots. Now move the picture away and watch the picture come into focus. Your original perspective was limited because of your closeness to the picture.

By contrast, God’s perspective is unlimited. He has seen it all. God sees the whole picture. He knows about events, circumstances, and people totally outside your line of vision.

The good news is that God has promised to guide us and to lead us. He did not promise to reveal everything to us but assured us that in His love and grace He will show us each step as we need to take it. Sometimes we just need a little more patience and a little more faith.

Remember, every time we doubt God’s plan for us or wonder whether He’s doing what’s right for us, our perspective is limited – just like a toddler.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
